15. STEVENSONS CREEK He had fenced his blocks with 40 chain of posts and three rail fence and 20 chain of log fence. It was a superbly appropriate place for the great pioneer to see out the last days of his life. He had been drawn to the water of Watsons Creek at Christmas Hills in 1842, and had spent with his wife Ruth, 7 years of his life on its eastern bank. Now in his twilight years, and alone, he would spend his final 7 years again on the creek’s eastern bank. The water was pure and so very clear here, and the forest along the creek was thicker and denser than in its northern reaches. In time the small tributary marking the boundary of Joseph’s potato paddock would become known as Stevensons Creek.
